A new Mellow Mushroom restaurant has opened Monday, July 16 at 6767 South Tamiami Trail, a space previously occupied by Beckham’s on the Trail. The unique and free-spirited pizzeria was received with a warm welcome of over 1,000 customers by its fourth day of business.

Mellow Mushroom distinguishes itself from other pizza restaurants with its heavily psychedelic-themed interior and menu. The walls are adorned with trippy murals painted by local artists, and menu items include pizzas like the “Kosmic Karma” or the “Holy Shiitake Pie”. The restaurant also serves a wide variety of appetizers, salads, calzones, hoagies, and desserts.

According to store owner and operator Karen Atwood, people have been waiting for Mellow Mushroom to come to Sarasota for a long time, and judging by the store’s reception, Tamiami Trail was clearly the perfect location to set up shop.
