Sarasota City Commission Paves Way for Fruitville Rd./US-41 Roundabout

Back in October 2017, we learned that up to three new roundabouts were being planned for Sarasota by 2020, all along Tamiami Trail. Construction has already begun on two of the roundabouts – one on the intersection of Tamiami Trail and 10th Street and another on the intersection of Tamiami Trail and 14th Street. The third roundabout proposed would be constructed on the intersection of Tamiami Trail and Fruitville Road. Last week, the City Commission agreed to swap several parcels of city-owned land with a private property owner to obtain the right-of-way needed to build the roundabout on Fruitville and US-41. Now, the City Commission and Florida Department of Transportation must both approve the project for it to move forward.

In addition to these three roundabouts, the City Commission is also considering proposing three more Tamiami Trail roundabouts on its intersections with Dr. Martin Luther King Way, Myrtle Street, and Gulf Stream Avenue.
