Futurists Predict Self-Driving Cars Will Greatly Affect Real Estate Industry

“Real estate might be the industry that is most transformed by autonomous vehicles,” predicts David Silver, who teaches self-driving engineering at an online university called Udacity. In a fascinating Bloomberg article recently featured in the Herald Tribune, many forward-thinking entrepreneurs and researchers hypothesize that widespread acceptance of autonomous transportation will significantly change how we assign value to land. In a world where traffic is greatly reduced, where commuting becomes less of a chore, and perhaps where large parking lots and garages become a lot less commonplace, the areas outlying commercial hotspots may become significantly more valuable due to their increased accessibility. While it remains to be seen if a self-driving vehicle revolution will truly catch on and change how we commute, some investors are already looking ahead to autonomous transportation as a great real estate opportunity.
